SILIGURI, April 9 – The North East Regional Tibetan Youth Congress (NERTYC) today organized a 24-hour hunger strike at Court More, Siliguri, to stress the longstanding demand for religious education of the 11th Panchen Lama, Gedun Choekyi Nyima, at Tashi Lhunpo monastery.
President of the NERTYC joint action committee, Mr. N Tsering said that his was their second step of protest against continuing violation of human rights in Tibet and that they have been observing this hunger strike in the entire North-east region today.
The NERTYC has also demanded that china disclose the details concerning the safety and whereabouts of the Panchen Lama.
Mr. Tshring aid, deeply concerned over human rights violations in Tibet and concerned at the international community and the UN’s failure to put a stop to theise incidents, a non-violent voluntary indefinite hunger strike is being observed by the Tibetan Youth Congress in front of the UN building in New York since 2 April.
