The three hunger strikers are with their demands for the seventh day. Besides rainy and windy atmosphere, the movement kept its flow with the support and encouragements from the supporters and organizations.
Today, Chinese human rights groups, Alliance to Oppose Persecution in China (ATOPIC) and Chinese Human Rights activists stood besides the Tibetan hunger strikers and appealed the UN with the banners stating “China Should Stop Human Rights Violations”. Mr. Kalsang Phuntsok, President of Tibetan Youth Congress addressed the huge gathering. “China is changing because Chinese people are now criticizing the Chinese government due to the government’s violation of human rights. We all have a problem of our own. China foresees a threat from Falun Gong practitioners, Christians, Tibetans and Uighurs. It will be easier for us to work together to make the China change since our enemy is common. Mighty enemy cannot be overthrown if battled individually.
China is trying to justify her unjustifiable actions.” said Mr. Kalsang Phuntsok. Alliance to Oppose Persecution in China (ATOPIC), a NGO based in New York hosted the gathering. There were as many as sixty different organizations gathered together voicing against the violation of Human Rights by the Chinese government. Global Coalition to Bring Jiang Zemin to Justice, Committee for Investigation Persecutions of Religion in China, Chinese Democracy Alliance, Taiwan Association of America, Transitional Radical Party and Activist in Democracy.
Mr. Kalsang Phuntsok, along with some of the anti-Chinese leaders submitted a memorandum to the United Nations appealing to pass the China resolution to be introduced by the US Government. The matter mainly contained in the memorandum was “We urge the United nations Human Rights Commission now meeting at Geneva to pass the China Resolution to be introduced by the U.S. government and call upon the People’s Republic of China to stop the repression of spiritual and political groups, including but not limited to Tibetans, Falun Gong practitioners, Christians, Catholics, Protestants and Uighurs; immediately release from detention and imprisonment all prisoners of conscience and political dissidents; and abide the internationally-accepted standard to implement freedoms of belief, expression, association and press.”
So far, there were no signs of positive official response from the concerned authorities but were able to make contact with the Office of High Commissioner of Human Rights at UN office in New York, local members of the Assembly, Organizations and personalities.
The medical check-ups of the three strikers are examined every day. The Relay Hunger Strike on the side to show support and solidarity to the movement by the local Tibetans continues. Tibetans from all over the United States visit the hunger strikers and participates in a Relay Hunger Strike along. Mrs. Julia Taft visited the spot to express her solidarity and support.
