Dharamsala, March 25 – A French municipality has decided to highlight the Tibetan cause by celebrating 2004 as the Year of Tibet.
The municipality of Mouans-Sartoux, located near Cannes in southern France, hoists the Tibetan national flag every year on March 10, the Tibetan uprising day.
The town will celebrate 2004 as the Year of Tibet, its mayor Andre Aschhieri announced here in Himachal Pradesh.
Aschhieri and Lional Lucca, president of the Tibet group in the French national assembly, were here to attend a meeting organised by the Tibetan government-in-exile.
India is home to the Tibetan spiritual leader Dalai Lama as well as some 100,000 Tibetans. The Dalai Lama’s Tibetan government-in-exile, which is not recognised by any other country, is based in this hill town.
A spokesman of the Tibetan refugees said Mouans-Sartoux would hold an exposition on Tibetan children in November. The town would confer an honorary citizenship on the Dalai Lama on Dec 10, the world Human Rights Day.
