Patna, Hollywood actor Richard Gere is producing a film on Tibet to espouse the cause of the Tibetans.
Titled “Poison Charm”, this would be the first film on Tibet made by an Indian and a Tibetan, sources in the monastery located in Bihar’s Bodh Gaya town, the birthplace of Buddhism.
Gere, known for his close association with the Tibetan spiritual leader the Dalai Lama, is also acting in the film.
It is likely to be shown at the Venice Film Festival in October, followed by the Toronto Film Festival.
Made by the filmmaker couple Ritu Sarin and Tenzing Sonam, “Poison Charm” was shot in the hill town of Dharamshala, the seat of the Tibetan government-in-exile, as well as at Dehradun, New Delhi and Jaipur.
The film deals with the exile of the people from Tibet, their dislocation and their attempts to re-establish their ethnic roots.
India is home to the Dalai Lama as well as some 100,000 Tibetan exiles.
