First Ever Tibetan Aids Concert
Dharamsala, March 15 – The concert was started with the brief introduction from the organiser Artist Loten Namling,who advocated the need of more awareness of the dangers of aids problem in exile community as well as in tibet. The chief guest Mrs. B.Tsering, President Tibetan Women Association appreciated the fact for the first time a Tibetan man has contributed in empowering the Tibetan women. she introduced the ongoing and future project on community developement by the women association. she stressed the need of finance to carry on the work of empowering the women. The women association promised the audience that their contribution will not be wasted.
The concert was started with a prayer by the Gyuto monks for the Aids victims and also requested the audience to simultaneously pray along with them. This was follwed by Chukie Thethong,Dhumkang Tsering Phuntsok,Ugen Choedon, Jamyang,Lhamo Dolma,palmo,Yangchen, Lhamo Dolma,Kharag Penpa,Tsewang Choedhen and Loten Namling. This was the first ever Buddhist mass prayer for global aids victims living and deceased.
The hall was packed with mixture of audience both from the Tibetan and western world.
The evening was a memorable event in the style of Traditional and Classical Music of Tibet and was wholly enjoyed by the rich audience. Many also inquired whereabouts of acquiring such music C.Ds and Cassettes. It was a great success.
Mr. Lobsang Tsering, a local AIDS activist briefely spoke on the issue of HIV/AIDS and Tibetan Community in both English and Tibetan Language. His organization, Kunphen had also literatures of HIVS/AIDS and free condom distribution was done. Both male and female audience fully accessed the free condom distrbution.
