Moscow, November 9 – The Buddhist spiritual leader, the Dalai Lama, may soon return to Tibet, a leading Russian Buddhist leader said.
”The Dalai Lama hopes to return to China’s Tibet Autonomous District within the next few years,” Kirsan Ilyumzhinvov, President of Kalmykia, the Buddhist-dominated region of Russia told reporters after his return from Tokyo, where he met with the spiritual leader, the Interfax news agency reported today.
”The Dalai Lama has confirmed that he is not advocating Tibet’s independence from China. That is not his ultimate goal,” he said.
”The Dalai Lama thinks that the Tibet Autonomous District should remain part of China taking into account its national and religious specifics, as well as the region’s unique environment,” Mr Ilyumzhinvov pointed out, adding that the Dalai Lama wants negotiations between his representatives and Chinese officials to proceed at a more rapid pace.
”The Dalai Lama has suggested that the result of these talks should be his return to the Tibet Autonomous District.
The Dalai Lama wants to return to Tibet. He is determined to return there,” the Kalmyk leader added.
