Tibetans who come to Mumbai every year to sell woollens are facing losses due to the heat as there are no takers for their wares. “There is no business. I’ve been able to sell only 40 items, most of which are smaller ones like caps and scarves,” says Dolma Tsering, who stays in Ladakh.
She’s set up shop near Fort for the last 15 days and will be here for three months. Tsering has been coming to Mumbai for the last seven years, but this year’s been the worst.
While Tsering is still hopeful, Phuntsok, a Tibetan based in Bangalore , is thinking twice about coming to Mumbai next winter. “This is my first time here. Earlier, I used to go to Ahmedabad, Vadodara, Jaipur, etc. But Mumbai proved to be disappointing. I only sold woollen materials worth Rs 3,000 in the last 10 days,” he says.
