News of Tenzin Delek Rinpoche imminent execution prompted Students for a Free Tibet –UK’s (SFT UK) workshop agenda at Shared Planet, the largest student conference in the UK over the weekend. In solidarity with the Tibetan freedom struggle, over 70 students signed up for the campaign to save Tenzin Delek, and will be joining people across the country on Friday 7th November, as we ‘Fax our MP’ requesting their assistance in releasing the respected Tibetan community leader.

Run by Alice Speller, Connel Watson and Emilie Hunter, the two workshops crammed the history of China’s occupation of Tibet before concentrating on Tenzin Delek’s case. Splitting into groups to brainstorm on methods to connect with MP’s, the media and international government, students came up with some innovative mechanisms to draw attention to the urgency of Tenzin Delek’s execution.

Our first workshop at People and Planet’s Shared Planet, we were impressed with the level of enthusiasm for the Tibetan cause, despite the limited knowledge that most conference members had, and are exuberant at being invited back next year.
