Tibetans sent to UNHCR after arrest

Kailali, October 11 – Eleven Tibetan refugees arrested on Tuesday for illegally entering Nepal were sent to the UN High Commission for Refugees (UNHCR), Kathmandu, today.

Those arrested include a child and a woman. They were apprehended for entering Nepal from Tibet without travel permits via Vyas Bhanjyang of Darchula district and they had possibly been planning to head for India to meet the Dalai Lama.

Kailali DSP Akhtar Ali Ansari said the refugees had been sent to the UNHCR after necessary interrogations. This is the second time that the Tibetans were arrested by Malakheti armed police post of Atariya when they were going to Mahendranagar. The Dadeldhura District Administration Office had also apprehended them but were subsequently released.
