Beijing, September 25 – China today welcomed Russia’s denial of visa to the exiled Tibetan spiritual leader, the Dalai Lama as “positive.”
“I have seen the statement of the Russian Foreign Ministry spokesman in this regard and feel positive about this decision by the Russian Government,” Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesman Kong Quan told reporters.
Responding to a question on Moscow’s denial of visa to the Dalai Lama, Kong noted that the just-released Sino-Russian joint statement clearly stated that both sides are clearly committed to maintaining the territorial integrity of the two countries.
“Both countries will stick to the sovereignty and territorial integrity on the core question of Taiwan and Tibet,” Kong said.
Reports from Moscow on Tuesday said that Russia decided against issuing a visa to the Dalai Lama keeping in mind the country’s national interests.
