DHARAMSHALA, August 2: The music sensation duo Anu Ringlug of much loved song this year, ‘Phur’ swept the Tibetan Music Awards 2017 bagging five categories at the 8th edition of the music awards at Norbu House here yesterday.
Phur, which has crossed 200,000 views on YouTube and various other platforms, the song won the Best Lyrics, Best Song, Best Music Video, Best Male Singer and Special Recognition out of 18 categories.
“This award is to honor the important works of Tibetan artists particularly in the field of music and literature (lyrics) and to encourage excellence in the industry and those who are part of it,” said Lobsang Wangyal, Director of Lobsang Wangyal Productions under which the awards has have been given since 2003.
Organized every two years, Lobsang Wangyal explained that since not much Tibetan music are produced in a year the award is held after every two years and that the voting is done through online on the albums and songs released within the last two years.
The total vote cast this year was 774 in total, of which around 100 votes were discarded due to irregularities and lack of mention of nominees.
Wangdak Dorjee’s ‘Oneness’ won the Best Album, upon receiving the award, he said, “Even though I have won, I accept this award with humility because I know that they are many who are not in the running due to various reasons and who I know are better than me.”
Wangdak also thanked everyone who had supported him throughout. “Not many see the hard work and expenses that go behind making an album given that we only have a limited market. Therefore, it feels great to be appreciated for our work and such honor encourages us to carry on working in the music industry,” said the singer.
Milaam by Bhu Chung won the Best Love Song and the Lifetime Achievement Award was bestowed posthumously to Tibetan legend Dubey, who passed away on February 27, 2016 at the age of 49 after a lengthy treatment at a hospital in Chengdu.
