DHARAMSHALA, July 20: The Tibetan Medical and Astrological Institute (Men-Tsee-Khang), has warned the public including Tibetans inside Tibet of the counterfeit pills sold under its name.

“In times when people assert their full faith in the products of the Institution, we have come across reports of people manufacturing counterfeit pills claiming to be TMAI products. Moreover, these counterfeits are being exported into Tibet for monetary gain,” the statement said.

The pioneer institution for traditional Tibetan healing science (Sowa Rigpa) based in Dharamshala appealed that such counterfeits to be reported directly to the head office. It also urged people to do thorough check before consuming their medicines.

“We urge everyone to take extra caution since it is related to the health and wellbeing of everyone’s friends and families. We as an institution believe the safety of Tibetans inside and outside Tibet is of utmost importance.”

The institution also clarified that selling products to others remain out of question as they are often unable to meet their own demands owing to the expansion of branch clinics in various places, increased number of patients and medical camps.

Medicinal pills made from Mentseekhang are in great demand in Tibet due to the popular belief that they come with the Dalai Lama’s blessings.
