Ex-Tibetan political prisoner visiting Brussels

Mr. Takna Jigme Sangpo arrived in Brussels on 6th March to start his first ever public talks on his 37 years of his experiences in Chinese prison. Mr. Takna was released on medical parole o on 31st march 2002 and now based in Switzerland

On the invitation of the European Parliament’s Tibet Intergroup he addressed an extraordinary meeting with dozens of the Members of the European Parliament, Assistants and Functionaries. Mr. Takna briefed the members on his own experiences in the Chinese prisons and on the present condition inside Tibet.

He thanked the Members of the European Parliament for their consistent support for Tibetan issue and urged the EU to support His Holiness the Dalai Lama in resolving the Tibetan problem through peaceful dialogue and negotiation.

On 7th March besides giving interviews to number of press he was also invited to European Parliament¹s NGO Human Rights Contact Group. Here he extended his sincere thanks to the NGOs for their support for his release and also urged them for their continued support for the release of remaining Tibetan political prisoners.
