DHARAMSHALA, Dec. 22: India is way beyond its ‘capability’ to challenge China and should learn some lesson before its messes with China, an editorial in the Chinese state media Global Times said on Wednesday.
The Chinese state mouthpiece slammed New Delhi of overreaching ‘to meddle’ in China’s national interest and development by taking advantage of the Dalai Lama issue, using it as leverage.
Showing ‘strong dissatisfaction’ over the recent meeting between the Tibetan leader and the Indian President, the state media said, “Indian President Pranab Mukherjee met with the Tibetan separatist in exile in India this month, probably as a support to Mongolia, which mired itself in diplomatic trouble after receiving the Dalai Lama in November.”
Following the statement of Mongolian Foreign Minister saying it will not allow the Dalai Lama to visit Mongolia again, the opinion piece by Wen Dao indicated that before New Delhi put its concerns and “vaguely pledge” promise to Mongolia to start, Ulaanbaatar ‘caved into the reality.’
“India should draw some lessons from the recent interactions between Beijing and US president elect Donald Trump over Taiwan. After pulling feelers to test China’s determination to its essential interest, trump has met China’s restrained but pertinent countermeasure, and must have understood China’s bottom line – sovereign and national unity – is untouchable,” wrote Wen.
Chastising India, it questioned, “Even the US would think twice before it messes with China on sensitive problems, so what makes India so confident that it could manage?”
The editorial also added, “Sometimes India behaves like spoiled kid, carried away by the lofty crown of ‘biggest democracy in world’. India has the potential to be a great nation, but the country’s vision is shortsighted.”
Responding to the allegation by China earlier this month, the Indian External Ministry spokesperson has said the meeting was ‘non political’ and considers His Holiness as a ‘revered spiritual leader.’
