DHARAMSHALA, October 13: A Tibetan man searched for by Chinese authorities in an alleged link with a self immolation incident in 2013 has been arrested on September 29 in Gansu Province.

Despite his wife’s protest, Sangdak Kyab who had gone into hiding for three years was taken into custody after police raided his home around 5 p.m. (local time) in Sangkok Township of Sangchu County.

Kyab and three others were accused of transferring the remains of a self-immolator to his family and causing obstruction to officials confiscating the body.

The three, Dorjee Namgyal, Jinpa and Dorjee Tashi were arrested and sentenced to two and half years to three and half years for their involvement. However, Kyab managed to escape and since went into hiding till his arrest last month.

According RFA, Kyab resurfaced after assuming that the issue had subsided. “After seeing the others had been released, Kyab returned home thinking that the situation had been resolved, but the police then raided his house,” asource was quoted as saying.

Kyab’s wife has not seen him since his arrest. “No information is available about Kyab’s present state of health or whether he has been tortured in jail,” the source added.

The authorities contacted the family on October 6 informing that only restaurant food and meat with no bones were allowed to be delivered during prison meetings. However, when Kyab’s wife went with food prison staff refused entry to Kyab’s wife and delivered the food themselves.
