Tibetan women released after 15 days’ detention in Ngaba

DHARAMSHALA, June 13: A Tibetan women who was detained over two weeks ago in Meruma Township in Ngaba County, Sichuan Province, has been released, according to Gu-Chu-Sum Former Political Prisoner’s Movement.

Tsering Kyi, aged 35 and a native to the Merema Township’s Division 3 village was detained around May 25 on suspicion of having links with exile ‘separatists’ and sending information out and endangering state security. She was released on June 9, 2015, the Dharamshala based organization said.

A photo of Tsering Kyi being welcomed and felicitated with the traditional Tibetan white scarf was also released by Gu-Chu-Sum although any other information related to her release such as the conditions of her detention and on what condition her release was accorded, is not known as of this moment.

Her father Sonam Tsering and Mother Bhalo also lives in the same village. The middle aged Tibetan woman runs a small tea shop in the village for her livelihood.

Meruma Township is located in the restive Ngaba region which has seen many self immolations, solo protests and protests in the last few years. On Dec. 22, 2014 a 20 year old Tibetan woman named Tsepey Kyi from Meruma Township’s Division 4 village self immolated and succumbed to burn injuries shortly.
