DHARAMSHALA, May 13: Following the victory of Lobsang Sangay in the polls for the highest office of the Tibetan polity, the official consecration for his second term as is set to take place at the end of this month. His Holiness the Dalai Lama “very kindly consented to grace the swearing-in ceremony,” the CTA run Tibet.net mentioned.

“The Sikyong-Elect Dr Lobsang Sangay will be sworn in at an official function on 27 May 2016 as per the Charter of Tibetans-in-Exile. The ceremony will be held at 09:30am at the Tsuklakhang (Main Temple) in McLeod Ganj, Dharamshala. The Chief Justice Commissioner will administer the oath to the Sikyong-Elect Dr Lobsang Sangay,” it further read.

The turbulent development with regards to the conduct of the Sikyong candidates during the campaign season led to censure from all spheres of the Tibetan community including the Dalai Lama, who publicly reprimanded the two concerned saying the proceedings have been ‘grand on the outside but shallow inside’. The state oracle echoed similar sentiments, albeit in a much more animated fashion days later.

Last month on April 27, the Election Commission, the autonomous structure under the CTA announced that the incumbent Prime Minister (Sikyong) Dr. Lobsang Sangay has won by a margin of 9012 votes confirming his tenure for a second term as Sikyong.

Lobsang Sangay has remained on the helm of the CTA ever since the title for the highest office holder was unanimously resolved to be changed from “Kalon Tripa” to “Sikyong” by the Tibetan Parliament in Exile on Sept. 20, 2012. The Tibetan word Sikyong translates to ‘political leader’.
