DHARAMSHALA, May 7: In a latest development in the Tibetan politics, the Tibetan Prime Minister Lobsang Sangay has appointed Penpa Tsering, his opponent in the recently concluded elections the new Representative of His Holiness the Dalai Lama to the Americas.
There were hopes amongst some sections of the Tibetan community, especially supporters of the Speaker of the Tibetan Parliament in Exile to be given a berth in the new cabinet (15th Kashag). However, the Harvard graduate and one of the most popular prime ministers of the exile Tibetans have put all speculations to rest with this appointment.
The Representative of His Holiness the Dalai Lama, based out of Washington DC where the office was moved from New York city by Sangay’s administration, is an important position held among others by former ministers like Kasur Tashi Wangdi and Kasur Lobsang Nyandak Zayul.
If Penpa Tsering accepts the appointment by signing the Kashag circular he shall assume office by July 1, 2016.
