DHARAMSHALA, April 4: Tibetan political prisoner serving her sentence of 15 years’ imprisonment was urgently shifted to a hospital in the Tibetan capital Lhasa last month following her ‘critical condition’, sources said.
Yeshi Choedon, 57, is presently unable to stand on her feet and requires wheelchair for mobility with assistance. Sources say her disability was caused while in prison due to torture and lack of proper healthcare.
Yeshi was sentenced to 15 years in prison and deprivation of political rights for five years on Nov. 7, 2008 for participating in the protests in Lhasa earlier in March the same year. She was sent to Drapchi prison, one of the most notorious prisons of Tibet.
According to official website of the Tibetan exile government, officially known as Central Tibetan Administration, her friends and families were not allowed to meet her at the hospital where three policemen have been stationed to keep an eye on her.
A former health worker, the 57-year old was accused of accepting assignments and funds from the ‘Public Security Department of the Dalai Clique’, most likely referring to the Department of Security of the exile Tibetan government.
