DHARAMSHALA, January 19: His Holiness the Dalai Lama on Tuesday left Dharamshala for the United States for a prostate treatment at Mayo Clinic in Rochester.

The official website of the Tibetan leader confirms that he will be ‘resting from the end of January 2016 for approximately one month’ after the treatment.

“His regular engagement schedule will resume in March,” the website mentions.

Before his departure from Gaggal Airport earlier today, he told reporters that it was regular health check up at the Mayo Clinic, where he has been consulting for the past nine years.

The Tibetan spiritual leader took off his glasses and pointed to a ‘minor swelling in his right eye’.

“I will go thorough medical checkup. Then if they find any problems, they can carry out treatment,” he told AP.

Doctors at Mayo Clinic on September 25, 2015 advised His Holiness to rest for the next several weeks leading to the cancellation of his US tour the following month.
