DHARAMSHALA, January 13: A Tibetan monk of Lamo Dechen Monastery in Chentsa County was arrested for the second time in less than a month on Tuesday. Lu Konchok Gyatso, whose book titled ’54 Days’ was earlier banned after a brief arrest last month, was summoned to the County police station on Tuesday. Two government officials from the United Front Work Department visited his home to summon him around 3.30 PM on Tuesday.
Konchok left for India in 1994 and enrolled into Gomang Monastery where he studied for six years. He returned to his native village in 2000, and started writing his experiences of 54 days, the duration of his flight to India via Nepal.
There is no information on the whereabouts of the 37-year old monk. No reason was given for his second arrest.
On December 18, he was arrested and interrogated at the Chentsa County detention center for several hours about his book ‘fifty four days’. He was later released with stern warnings against publication of his book.
The book was to be published in March 2015 but was stopped by authorities who took him to Malho Prefecture Public Security Bureau office and detained him for one week. He was interrogated for long hours.
The police ransacked his monastic quarters and confiscated his Laptop and cellular phone, which were not returned upon his release.
