DHARAMSHALA, August 31: The whereabouts of a Tibetan monk arrested from Rebkong in traditional Tibetan province of Amdo remain unknown even after 56 days since his arrest.

Family members of Gomar Choephel, 46, who was arrested on July 7 by the Public Security Bureau of Tongren County for unknown reasons are extremely worried about his wellbeing, a Tibetan source told the Voice of Tibet radio service.

“The reason for his arrest is still not specified properly by the police and his whereabouts is still unknown. Choephel is a learned and humble senior monk of the monastery who was well respected,” the Voice of Tibet radio quoted Sonam, a Tibetan resident of Switzerland.

Gomar Choephel hails from Gomar village in Rebkong in Tongren County.
