Tibetan arrested for possession of Dalai Lama image

DHARAMSHALA, May 22: The Chinese authorities Nyikar County have arrested a Tibetan man last month from under suspicion of involvement in carrying world peace flag and a picture of Tibetan spiritual leader His Holiness the Dalai Lama.

Sonam Dhargay was arrested by Nyikar County Police officials from a market in Ngaba County where he had gone to shop for his shop in Pema County in Golog last month.

Citing a local resident, US based Radio Free Asia said that Chinese authorities arrested Sonam Dhargay under suspicion of carrying pictures on His Holiness the Dalai Lama, former Kalon Tripa Professor Samdhong Rinpoche and Tibetan Prime Minister Dr Lobsang Sangay on a huge world peace flag during the mask dance (cham) on Great Choetrul Prayer Festival in Gomang monastery on February 4.

His current condition and whereabouts remain unknown after 20 days of his arrest. The local residents are very concerned and the monks of Gomang monastery have been performing prayers for him.

Dhargay is a native of Suwa dewa and a son to Chokgo and Rilo. He and his wife Yangzom with with their three children.
