DHARAMSHALA, April 22: The Tibetan Prime Minister Dr. Lobsang Sangay said it is important for an individual to not just understand ethics and codes of conduct but also put into practice while engaging in business activities. The Harvard educated Tibetan PM was speaking earlier today at a brief ceremony to commemorate the 10th anniversary of the Tibetan Chamber of Commerce here at Norbu House in Mcleod Ganj.

“As the tag line of Tibetan Chamber of Commerce is ‘Business with ethics’, it is important to understand the business ethics and work accordingly,” said Sangay.

“We all have a responsibility for our movement, for our land, for our people, for poor, for new arrivals from Tibet, stability and sustainability of Tibetan settlement, and as the TCC made its announcement to take its responsibility today in the celebration of 10th anniversary, I have full faith in all the members that everyone is doing their part,” said Sangay.

Also present at the occasion were Speaker of the Tibetan parliament Penpa Tsering; Gyari Dolma, Minister of Department of Home; Kesang Ngurup Damo, Deputy Resident Commissioner, Government of Arunachal Pradesh; senior officials of Tibetan government in exile and representatives of Tibetan NGOs.

Tibetan PM Sangay released Magazine published by the TCC titled “10 Years of TCC’s Journey” and TCC’s financial year calendar titled “Forever in Gratitude” in dedication of Tibetan spiritual leader His Holiness the Dalai Lama turning eighty this year in July.

Speaker Penpa Tsering said that it is important for TCC to engage with businessmen inside Tibet not only for exchange of business ideas but also their opinion.

Congratulating the Chamber, Kesang Ngurup Damo said that “challenges are still tremendous ahead”.

Damo called on TCC’s member to pay attention not just to monetary and financial benefits but also educate more on changing rules and regulation, taxations and laws.

“We are aware of the fact that world is changing is very very fast. With changing world, the rules and regulations are also being changed everywhere. Business modules are being changed. The regulations, taxations and land laws and everything are changing with time. So the Tibetan community cannot be isolated from the changing rules and regulations,” said Kesang Ngurup Damo.

The board members of TCC also read out the annual and financial reports. The members will meet for its 10th Annual General Meeting from tomorrow for two days.

The Tibetan Chamber of Commerce was established in 2005 to undertake activities and steps to enhance and benefit the business interests of the members and the Tibetan businesses and Tibetan community in general. The Chamber said it also aims to support new and aspiring Tibetan entrepreneurs.
