DHARAMSHALA, March 21: A Tibetan monk of Labrang Tashikhyil monastery in Sangchu County have been arrested, reported the VOT radio service.
Jamyang Jinpa, 43, was taken away by the Chinese police on the night of March 13. The police, however, did not specify any charge for his arrest, said Golok Jigme, former monk of Labrang Tashikhyil now living in Switzerland.
Family and friends remain worried about Jinpa whose whereabouts remain unknown since his arrest.
Jinpa was among the 140 monks of his monastery who were arrested on May 7, 2008. by the Chinese police following a raid. Majority of the monks were soon released but Jinpa was held for around forty more days during which he suffered immense torture, according to Golok Jigme who said he was also in the same detention centre then.
In 2008, Labrang in Sangchu County witnessed some of the most dramatic unrests against Chinese rule, mainly led by monks of the Tashikhyil Monastery, the region’s most prominent monastery.
