DHARAMSHALA, February 23: A pioneer Tibet research centre based here has published a book – a collection of academic papers, articles on various aspects of Tibet by Tibetologists all over the world – dedicated to a noted American Tibetologist, Elliot Sperling.
The Amye Machen Institute launched the book, Trails of the Tibetan Tradition, at the Hotel Tibet conference hall. Tashi Tsering, Director of AMI, introduced Elliot Sperling as a very dedicated expert in his field of expertise – Tibetology. Tsering gave a brief introduction on the various conferences of Tibetologists held so far and how Tibetology as an academic branch is gaining popularity in the universities abroad.
“This book is a small token of gratitude to someone who has dedicated his entire life on studying Tibet, and this is our way of paying respects to him”, said Tsering.
The book took two years for its editor, a noted Italian Tibetologist, Dr. Roberto Vitali. Talking about his two years working on the book, Vitali said it is not just a token of friendship for Sperling but an acknowledgement of years and years of Elliot’s works.
The book of 591 pages feature 1 paper in Chinese, 5 in Tibetan and 25 in English. The book with a pricetag of 2000 Rupees was sold for a special price of 1000 Rupees at the launch today. Enthusiasts bought copies and got them signed by Sperling and Vitali.
Elliot Sperling is an Associate Professor of Central Eurasian Studies and an expert on the history of Tibet and Tibetan-Chinese relations at Indiana University. He has several books and articles to his credit.

I am old friend of Roberto Vitali when he started his research way back 40 years.
I lost contact with him for about 20 years. Can anyone possibly share his contact number or mail id.
