Tibetan monk arrested in Kardze

DHARAMSHALA, February 9: A Tibetan monk has been arrested by Chinese authorities for carrying out a solo protest on Friday in Kardze County in Kham.

Pema Dorjee, 17-year-old monk from Za Gonsar monastery, marched into the streets of Kardze calling for the return of the Tibetan spiritual leader His Holiness the Dalai Lama to Tibet and his long life.

A few minutes into the protest, eight Chinese security personnel arrived at the protest site and beat up Pema. Pema, who was seen critically injured and wounded due to the beatings, was arrested.

It is not known where he is currently detained.

Pema Dorjee, a native of Zakhog, Derge is a son of Lhagya and Meyang.
