DHARAMSHALA, February 3: A Tibetan monk has been detained on January 10 from Chengdu, Sichuan Province, allegedly for his writing critical of the Chinese government policies.
Gendun Gyatso (pen name- Da Demik), 27, was arrested while he was returning with two friends from a Chinese language class in Chengdu.
“Some plain clothed men, believed to be officials from China’s secret service, stopped him and confiscated his laptop and some of his writings,” a source said.
His current condition and whereabout remain unknown.
Gyatso was first arrested in 2008 from Lhasa where he was studying Drepung monastery. He was detained for three months. He was later released and sent back to Thelo monastery in Tsolo Mangra County.
Gyatso had travelled to Chengdu during the ongoing winter vacation of his monastery to study Chinese.
Gyatso is a native of Tharshul township, Mangra County, Qinghai.
