DHARAMSHALA, Feb. 2: China has announced reward of up to 300,000 Yuan (48003.8 USD) for people providing information to the police about “terror attacks”, Chinese state-run media reported.
A document published by the regional public security department of the Tibet Autonomous Region said the reward shall be given to people who give “tip-offs on overseas terrorist organizations and their members’ activities inside China, the spreading of religious extremism, terror related propaganda, those producing, selling and owning weapons, activities that help terrorists cross national borders and terror activities via the internet.”
People can report through the “110” emergency line or go to the police department to report in person.
Awards will vary based on the significance of the tip-offs, the document read. “Anonymous tip-offs will not be rewarded and the safety of the tipsters will be protected”, the document said.
The document said people who provide fabricated information will be investigated for legal responsibility.
China regularly blames exile Tibetans for instigating self immolation in Tibet, where 136 Tibetans have set their bodies on fire since 2009. Exile Tibetans maintain that the self immolation shows China’s failure of its policies in Tibet.
It also calls the Tibetan Youth Congress, the largest pro-independence group of the exile Tibetans, a terrorist organization, and accuses the group of carrying out anti-China activities in India and Nepal.
