DHARAMSHALA, January 14: Amid concerns over a suspicious package found by a Tibetan woman on the Linkor road adjacent to the residence of the Tibetan spiritual leader His Holiness the Dalai Lama, the Department of Security of Tibetan government in exile said that that it was not a bomb and that there is no need to panic.

“After thorough examination by experts and the police, we found that the object was nothing of any danger. It was not an explosive but just a garbage,” said Karma Rinchen, Additional Secretary of the Department of Security.

“I request all Tibetan people not to worry and there is nothing to panic. It is just a garbage,” said Karma.

Image of a bomb-like object wrapped and taped up in silver foil was widely circulated on WeChat, a widely used micro-messaging app in Tibet and Facebook leading to fear and concern among Tibetans both inside and in exile.

The suspicious package was spotted by a lady staff of the Clean Dharamsala Project under the TIbetan Settlement Office, who was on her routine garbage collection duty. She reported it to the security personnel at Tsuglakhang temple following which the Department of Security informed the police.
