MUNDGOD, December 30: The Tibetan Prime Minister Dr. Lobsang Sangay has assured the Tibetan business community of assistance and cooperation from his administration in their ventures. “I am aware that it is the duty of the administration to facilitate business community, and we will make sure that all possible assistance is provided in carrying out various ventures,” said the Tibetan PM.
The Tibetan PM was speaking at the inaugural session of the Global Tibetan Entrepreneurship Conference that began here today. Around 50 Tibetan entrepreneurs from within India, Nepal, England and Poland have gathered here to discuss ways to promote entrepreneurship in the Tibetan communities in exile.
“I recall His Holiness the Dalai Lama talking to Tibetans earlier this year in Washington DC, where he said that there should be Tibetan millionaires and billionaires also,” said Sangay.
The Tibetan PM told the participants of the conference that his administration is working to ease the conditions for seeking loans from his administration, among other initiatives under his cabinet. He also said that the private enterprises should take responsibility of benefitting not just themselves but also the community in which they operate.
Organized jointly by the Delhi based Empowering the Vision and Bangalore based Federation of Tibetan Cooperatives in India, the opening session of the conference was attended by Sandeep Marwah, the Chairman of the International Chamber of Media and Entertainment Industry, Youdon Aukatsang, Director of Empowering the Vision, and Tashi Wangdu, Chairman of the Federation of Tibetan Cooperatives in India, Chhimey Rigzen; Additional Secretary; Department of Home, among others.
His Holiness the Dalai Lama, through a video message played during the conference, said that financial stability is very important for any community to thrive. The Tibetan leader, citing a watch factory he saw in Sikkim, said it is important to find ways of sustainable economy in the Tibetan settlements like setting up such business units or assembly plants in the Tibetan settlements.
Youdon Aukatsang said the main purpose of holding the conference was to bring Tibetan entrepreneurs together and share ideas of conception, development and implementation of business in the Tibetan communities all over the world.
“Tibetans have good entrepreneurial skills, and there is a need to awaken and support the latent entrepreneurial spirit and this conference is a small step in that direction,” said Aukatsang, who heads the Empowering the Vision.
The two-day conference will include interactive sessions with Tibetan entrepreneurs from various sectors including real estate, hospitality, education, and IT.
