DHARAMSHALA, December 24: The Speaker of Tibetan Parliament, Penpa Tsering, today launched a book by a deceased Tibetan writer at the auditorium of the Library of Tibetan Works and Archives at Ghangchen Kyishong near here.
The book, a compilation of articles by the writer on various subjects including his writings on the Tibetan spiritual leader His Holiness Dalai Lama. It also includes his opinion on the unrest in Tibet and an application to Chinese President Xi Jinping highlighting the crisis inside Tibet.
“What he has felt, heard and seen is historically very important, especially being an individual who had worked from village head to County head and then to Prefecture level.” Dhargay was born in 1941 and died in 2013, and had witnessed the drastic change in Tibet.
Speaking about recent self-immolation protests in Tibet, Tsering said, “After a while, we have seen three self-immolation protests in a week and this shows the critical situation inside Tibet.”
In just a week, three Tibetans have set themselves on fire in Tibet protesting against China’s occupation and its hard line policies in Tibet. Since 2009, 136 Tibetans have set themselves on fire in Tibet, of which, 116 have died.
The book launch was also attended by Dhamchoe Pelsang, historian; Lobsang Choedak, Vice-President of PEN Tibetan Center; members of Tibetan Parliament and exile based writers.
Dhamchoe Pelsang, who is also a brother-in-law of the writer said that there are many others like Dhargay in Tibet but many don’t know about them and their work remains inside Tibet only, and fading away with the history.
The book, first written in Chinese and later translated into Tibetan language, was published by PEN Tibetan Center.
