DHARAMSHALA, December 18: The Tibetan Prime Minister Lobsang Sangay has expressed his gratitude to the US Congress for sanctioning a 3 Million US Dollar fund under a new line item to aid the Tibetan community in India and Nepal.

“The Central Tibetan Administration would like to express its deep gratitude and thank the US government and Congress for their generous assistance towards the Tibetan community ” said Sangay.

“Funds appropriated by this Act under the headings “Global Health Programs”, “Development Assistance”, “Economic Support Fund”, and “Migration and Refugee Assistance” shall be made available for programs to promote and preserve Tibetan culture and the resilience of Tibetan communities in India and Nepal, and to assist in the education and development of the next generation of Tibetan leaders from such communities,” states the Congress appropriation bill.

Sikyong Dr. Lobsang Sangay has visited Washington, DC five times since assuming the office of the Tibetan PM following a landslide victory in the 2011 elections.

The US government had earlier sanctioned funds for the Central Tibetan Administration’s Department of Education, Department of Health and for the Tibetan Computer Resource Centre (TCRC) for internet security. The sanction of the new fund reflects a support for the activities of the leadership of the Central Tibetan Administration, says the official website of the Tibetan government in exile (officially known as the Central Tibetan Administration).
