DHARAMSHALA, November 16: The Sakya Centre in Dehradun on Nov. 13 celebrated its 50th anniversary in the presence of Sakya Ghongma Rinpoche, the head of the Sakya tradition of Tibetan Buddhism.
Penpa Tsering, Speaker of the Tibetan Parliament, Pema Chinjor, minister for religion and culture, Prof. Samdhong Rinpoche, representative of Gaden Phodrang, members of Tibetan parliament and devotees from across the world attended the inaugural function held at the Sakya monastery in Rajpur, Dehradun. Also present were the heirs of Dolma Phodrang and Phuntsok Phodrang of Sakya lineage.
Addressing the gathering, His Eminence Sakya Ghongma Rinpoche said that the 50th anniversary is marked to look back to the last fifty years and evaluate ourselves and look for more improvement in all fields. “We must always remember the kindness and tireless efforts by His Holiness the Dalai Lama without whom we would not have achieved what we enjoy today.”
Ghongma Rinpoche expressed his gratitude to the government and people of India for all the assistance provided to start Sakya Centre and other institute run under his patronage.
Prof. Samdhong Rinpoche read out His Holiness the Dalai Lama’s message for the occasion. Minister for religion and culture read out the Kashag’s statement, and Speaker of the Tibetan parliament read out the parliament’s statement.
The function was followed by a short concert featuring popular Tibetan pop singer Tsering Gyurmey.
