DHARAMSHALA, September 1: Two more Tibetans have been arrested in Tibet’s Denma town of Sershul County as China continues to detain several Tibetans after Chinese armed police fired on Tibetans protesting the arrest of a local village chief on Aug. 12.
Tsekhog and Pelgyal, both residents of Yardok village, were arrested for taking pictures of the protests by the Tibetans of Shugpa village outside the Chinese government office in Denma town on Aug 12, a Tibetan exile told the Voice of Tibet radio.
There is no additional information or details about the two currently.
Chinese armed police opened fire on Tibetans demanding the release of Wangdak, chief of Shugpa Village, on Aug. 12, injuring at least ten people. Four Tibetans died of untreated wounds in custody, while a Tibetan named Lo Palsang who had been wounded in the demonstration, committed suicide in custody. A pregnant wife of a Tibetan man named Jinpa Tharcin who died in custody committed suicide.
Sources say that Wangdak was arrested following an argument with local Chinese officials who reportedly harassed some girl members of a dance troupe, which had been invited to perform at an annual festival. The members of the dance troupe had approached Wangdak, known among his fellow villagers for helping local residents in various matters.
