DHARAMSHALA, August 19: A 28-year-old Tibetan nurse been allegedly gang-raped by two men at Oberoi Hotel in Hazrat Nizamuddin, New Delhi on August 15, India’s Independence Day. The accused duo also threatened to kill the nurse if she tells about the incident to anyone.
The two accused have been identified as Neeraj, 25, and Rajan, 20, both working as a personal staff of the hotel owner. The duo has been arrested and a case has been registered at Hazrat Nizamuddin police station.
The Tibetan nurse was first raped on August 15, night at the hotel, where she had gone to attend the hotel owner’s ailing wife. The victim was assaulted once before the night of the incident by the same men.
“On Friday, the victim was on duty at the suite where the owner’s wife has been staying for four years. The accused forcibly took her to their room and gangraped her,” police told Hindustan Times.
However, on August 17, the girl told about the incident to her husband who then reported the case to the police. A medical examination also confirmed the rape.
The incident occurred on the day when Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi, in his address to the nation on 68th Independence said that India has been shamed by a recent spate of rapes and called on parents to take responsibility for their sons’ actions, saying parents must teach their sons the difference between right and wrong.
The Tibetan Women’s Association has been trying to reach out to the victim. The Tibetan NGO for women strongly condemned the action of the two men and called for immediate action from the law enforcing authorities.
