DHARAMSHALA, June 27: Chinese authorities have released a Tibetan nun after three years of imprisonment on June 25.
Chime, who was working as a nurse in a clinic in Lamdrok Nunnery, was arrested with her helper nun Choega on their way to Lamdrag Hospital in Kardze city as travelling to Kardze without travel permit during an uprising in Kardze County against Chinese government in 2011.
After a year in detention, Chime was sentenced to three years in prison on charges of splittist behavior.
Chime was released and escorted to her home on June 25 midnight to prevent public celebration of her homecoming, a Tibetan source said. However, a day later, as soon as the local Tibetans learned of Chime’s release, local Tibetans and nuns of Lamdrok Nunnery welcomed her by offering Tibetan ceremonial scarves (khatak).
