DHARAMSHALA, June 18: Dharamshala, JUNE 20: Two Tibetan writers jailed in 2010 for writing anti China articles in a magazine have been released earlier today from Menyang prison, about 200 Kms on the outskirts of Chengdu, the capital of Sichuan Province, a Tibetan source said.
Jangtse Dhonkho and Bhudha were arrested articles they wrote about the 2008 Tibetan unrest in the literary magazine ‘Shar Dungri’(Eastern Snow Mountain), which is now banned and its editor Tashi Rabten jailed in Barkham County. Dhongkho was an editor of Dhue rab ki Nga magazine and Bhudha, the editor of Shar Dung Ri.
A Chinese court in Tibet’s Ngaba region sentenced the two Tibetans to four years in prison for “inciting activities to split the nation.”
Bhudha, aged 34, is a medical doctor by profession who worked as an editor and writer in his spare time. He was arrested on June 26, 2010 from the hospital where he worked.
Born in 1978, Dhonkho had established a highly-regarded Tibetan daycare center with his friends in their home area of Khyungchu in Ngaba. He was arrested from his home on June 21, 2010.
Tibetan singers, writers, and artists promoting Tibetan national identity and culture have been the target of China’s ongoing crackdown on intellectuals, especially after the 2008 Beijing Olympics.
