The Dalai Lama yesterday met with over a thousand people on visit to the town from 62 countries at Tsuglakhang, the main temple in McLeod Ganj. This was the Tibetan leader’s second such public audience for visitors to the town this year.
The Dalai Lama lauded the ancient Indian tradition of ‘ahimsa’ saying he regarded India as “guru (teacher)” and Tibet as “Chela (disciple)”. He urged the Indians to keep up their longstanding practice of ahimsa, non-violence and the remarkable inter-religious harmony.
He also emphasized the importance of developing inner peace than depending on a materialistic world for a happy life. “The key is to follow self-interest wisely by developing concern for others rather than foolishly being concerned for ourselves.”
He said one must solve conflict through non-violence and dialogue. He also expressed his hope that the younger generation will be able to shape a “happier and more peaceful world.”
His Holiness will give two days teachings on The Heart Sutra (Sherab Nyingpo) and Praise to the Intelligent One (Manjushri Prayer gang loma) to the Tibetan youth at the Tibetan Children’s Village School from June 4 and 5.
