Dharamshala, May 3: The Department of Religion & Culture of the exile Tibetan government in association with Gyumey Tantric College in South India has scheduled to hold a six-month Buddhism and Tibetan language training for Tibetan graduates.
According to the Department of Religion & Culture, this program has taken shape with inspiration and guidance from His Holiness the Dalai Lama, who often stresses on the importance of imparting Buddhist education to younger generation of Tibetans in order for them to be ’21st century Buddhists’.
Ven. Norbu Dhonden, the secretary of the department, said that His Holiness encourages Tibetans to learn the essence of Buddhism, which is compassion and warm heartedness, as part of their educational curriculum.
“HIs Holiness the Dalai Lama has advised the lay Tibetans to take equal interest in Buddhist studies as monks and nuns to serve the community better,” Dhonden said.
The requirements for the Tibetans wanting to join this program are that they must be graduate and to have good command over Tibetan and English language.
The six-month training will cover the basic principles of Buddhism and Tibetan language, according to the department. The participants will be awarded certificates after the completion of a specially designed course, Dhonden said.
