TYC holds leadership training for Tibetan youth

BANGALORE, Dec 16 – Around fifty Tibetan students from India and Nepal have gathered in the south Indian city of Bangalore to participate in the Tibetan Youth Leadership Training Program organized by Tibetan Youth Congress (TYC), the largest pro independence group in exile.

The leadership training started Sunday with an opening ceremony which was attended as Chief Guest by Vijay Kranti, a veteran Indian journalist and a long time Tibet supporter, representatives of the Central Tibetan Administration and students.

President of Tibetan Youth Congress Tenzing Jigme noted the importance of Tibetan youth taking responsibility of the Tibetan movement. He said, “our politics is young but deep, our democracy is new but hopeful…we have a long road ahead of us but with faith in our hearts, hope in our souls and commitment to make sacrifices for our cause we will restore freedom and independence for Tibet”.

This years training include workshops on the structure of the Central Tibetan Administration facilitated by Pema Jugney, former speaker of the Tibetan parliament and incumbent MP, former vice president of TYC and incumbent MP Karma Yeshi.

Professional trainers will also conduct sessions on “How to be an effective leader”, “Improving public speaking skills” and “The power of non violent direct action strategies”.

Students will also learn to be effective spokespersons and the importance of social media in today’s world. “When the students leave this training, we really want them to feel like they can go back to their colleges and be leaders in their community. We want to empower them and give them the confidence to organize, mobilize and lead “ said Tamdin Hrichoe, Vice President of TYC.

“The annual program is the 14th in its series has proven to be valuable training ground for Tibetans living in exile and many of today’s leaders in the Tibetan diaspora, including the Tibetan Political Leader (Sikyong) Lobsang Sangay who once served as a member of TYC at its headquarters in Dharamsala,” said TYC in a statement.

The training being held at the Tibetan Children Village hostel in Bangalore will conclude on Dec. 19.
