Tibetan girl wins gold at Chinese national games

DHARAMSHALA, September 12: A Tibetan girl from Dashi County in Tsojhang (TAR) has won a gold medal yesterday in the 10.000 metre race at the 12th National Games of the People’s Republic of China held in Shenyang city from August 31 to September 12.

Tsomo Kyi, 21-year-old Tibetan girl clocked a new record of 31 minutes and 55 seconds in the track event. On September 9, Kyi also won a silver medal in 5000 metre race.

Tsomo Kyi’s recently came 34th in the World Athletics Championship in Moscow and 4th position in national marathon competition in China held earlier this year. She respectively came second and third in the 5,000 m and 10,000 m race at the 7th national games held in Jinan city in Shandong province in 2011.

Last year, Choeyang, a 22-year old Tibetan girl won bronze at the 2012 Olympic Games in women’s 20 km walking race.

Choeyang had said after her win, “I’m extremely honored to be the first representative of the Tibetans at the Olympic Games and to win a medal.”
