DHARAMSALA, September 5 – The south zone Tibetan parliamentary delegation currently in Mumbai as part of the ‘Solidarity with Tibet’ campaign has said India should adopt a more aggressive policy with China on Tibet.
“Chinese repression has only increased in the last so many years. They are exploiting Tibet’s mineral resources. They have also been dumping their nuclear waste in Tibet,” Lobsang Yeshi, a member of the Tibetan Parliament-in-exile said on Wednesday.
He also alleged that China was pursuing anti-India policies.
The delegation met Maharashtra Legislative Assembly Speaker Dilip Walse-Patil, Home Minister Shri R. R. Patil and Minister for Employment Guarantee Nitin Raut, and apprised them of the recent spate of self immolations in Tibet and the subsequent Chinese crackdown on Tibetans.
“The Indian government and its people should raise the issue of Tibet at various governmental and non-governmental platforms,” Yeshi said, adding that Tibetans were fighting the “mightiest” power in the world through non violence inspired by the ancient Indian tradition of Ahimsa.
The delegation comprising of MPs Ven. Atruk Tseten, Mr. Jigme Jungney, Mr. Lobsang Yeshi, Mr. Gyari Bhutuk, Ms. Tsering Youdon and Ms. Bhumo Tsering, met several political and Bollywood personalities, including RPI leader Ramdas Athawale, film directors Shyam Benegal and David Dhawan, producer Firoz Nadiadwala, actors Anupam Kher, Vivek Oberoi, David Dhawan, Nargis Fakhri, among others.
The delegation had carried out lobbying campaigns in Karnataka, Kerala, Tamil Nadu, Andhra Pradesh, Pondicherry and Goa, before arriving in Mumbai.
The Tibetan Parliament-in-Exile launched the lobbying campaign last year as part of the exile Tibetan administration’s attempt at garnering wider support for international intervention in the ongoing crisis inside Tibet.
The Tibetan parliament will meet for its winter session from September 18, 2013.
