DHARAMSALA, AUGUST: The Tibetan government in exile (officially called the Central Tibetan Administration) on Saturday said it “strongly condemns the recent incident of alleged sexual aggression perpetrated on a minor Tibetan girl in Mundgod settlement by two fellow community members.”

The department of home under whose administration the Mundgod Tibetan settlement falls has issued orders to all Tibetan settlements to report such incidents to the police without “any exemption”.

“The Department of Home will do everything within its power to ensure that such heinous criminal offence is duly reported to the local police and dealt with in the court of law. Our Settlement Officer in Mundgod will render all necessary assistance to both the victim and her family” said Dolma Gyari, minister (Kalon) for the Department of Home.

*Meanwhile, the police arrested the two accused on Saturday and an FIR has been filed against the two. However, it is not known under which section of the IPC (Indian Penal Code) they will be charged as of now.

Sources said that the father of the alleged victim initially wanted to report to the police but later declined to do so after discussions with the camp administration which suggested that the matter be internally resolved as “it would bring bad name to the Tibetan leader the Dalai Lama.”

The Tibetan Women’s Association also condemned the alleged crime and said such matter must be reported to the law enforcement authorities. “This is not a matter to be kept under the wraps. No one should take the law into his or her hands,” said Tashi Dolma, the TWA president. The vice president of the TWA, Samten Choedon has already arrived in Mundgod today.
