DHARAMSHALA, April 17: The Department of Information and International Relations (DIIR) of the exile Tibetan administration in association with Tibetan Welfare Office of Dharamsala today held ‘Understanding Middle Way Approach to resolve the issue of Tibet’.
Addressing to the participants, Tashi Phuntsok, Secretary of DIIR said, “In order to understand Middle Way Approach, we have to understand what is the current situation of Tibet, what is the understanding of China on the issue of Tibet, what is the understanding of international bodies on the issue of Tibet or at the same time what is the understanding of issue of Tibet by the people of India.”
He termed the situation in Tibet as “desperate” with 115 Tibetans have self-immolated since April 2009.
Calling China’s attitude towards Tibet as a hard-line approach, Phuntsok said, “There has been no significant evidence to show that China has somehow try to understand the situation in Tibet the aspirations of Tibetans and the need to resolve the issue of Tibet.”
“Middle Way Approach is most pragmatic, most useful and that is how the Middle Way Approach is being understood. Now this Middle Way Approach simply therefore is where you think that there is benefit for both the parties.”
Pursuing the Middle Way Policy is the current position of the exile Tibetan administration, he added.
Many Tibetans, local Indian Tibet supporters and the media attended the seminar.
