DHARAMSHALA, April 16: Dalhousie’s Central Tibetan School for Tibetans, one of the oldest Tibetan schools under the Central Tibetan Schools Administration in India will commemorate its golden jubilee celebrations from 28 to 30 April.
Among the guests will be His Holiness the Dalai Lama, Prime Minister of the exile government, Dr Lobsang Sangay, and former PM Samdhong Rinpoche. Sangay is also the Kalon or minister for the Department of Education of the exile Tibetan administration.
Tentative program for the three-day function includes addresses by the Tibetan Nobel Laureate, Samdhong Rinpoche and Sangay, various cultural shows, and basketball and football tournaments.
The school has invited its alumni and former staff members for golden jubilee anniversary.
CST Dalhousie’s official golden jubilee website says the occasion is dedicated to appreciate kindness and generosity of the people and Government of India.
“The magnanimity of the Indian Government’s unprecedented financial and infrastructural assistance to all Tibetans during their darkest period in history will never be forgotten. Supported by the generosity of the government and people of India, Tibetan schools have been able to provide modern and traditional education to all children.”
Established in May 1963, the school is situated in the northern Indian state of Himachal Pradesh. It has currently classes from KG to 12th standard with over two hundred students, including local Indian students. Many students come from remote places in India like Miao, Tezu, Tuting, Bomdila, Bandra, Mainpat etc. where there are Tibetan settlements.
