DEHRADUN, September 14: Thousands of Tibetans braved heavy rainfall to receive teachings from His Holiness the Dalai Lama at the Dekyiling Tibetan Settlement in Dehradun today.
The entire population of Dekyiling of over 2000 people in addition to thousands of Tibetan monks, nun, and students from the nearby Tibetan areas huddled under a drenched tent to hear the Tibetan spiritual leader teach from the Nagarjuna’s Precious Garland (Rinchen Trengwa) at the settlement’s Norling Park.
His Eminence Sakya Trizin, the head of the Sakya school was also present at the teachings.
The learned Indian scholar Nagarjuna’s ‘The Precious Garland’ (Rinchen Trengwa) is advice that was offered to a king on how to conduct life and social policy with Buddhist ideals. The teachings consist of five chapters and His Holiness taught from the first chapter Mngon par mtho ba dang nges par legs pa,
Following the teachings, the Dekyiling Tibetan Settlement offered a long-life prayer offering (Tenshug) to the Dalai Lama.
Later in the day, His Holiness paid visits to the Drikung Labrang, Drikung Shedra and Tegchog Samten Ling (Gongkar Choede’s Retreat Center) before retiring for the night at the Drikung Jangchupling Monastery.
Tomorrow, His Holiness the Dalai Lama is scheduled to confer the Avalokiteshvera Initiation at Tashi Khyil Monastery in Clement Town followed by a visit the Tibetan Children’s Village School in Selakui.
