DHARAMSHALA, November 3: Coinciding the two day G20 Summit in Cannes, France, Tibetans under the aegis of Global Day of Action for Tibet protest stormed Chinese Embassies and Consulates in 60 cities of more than 25 countries across the world.
Starting from the eve of the G20 summit on Wednesday, Tibetans across the world from Nepal to US, India to Europe and Australia protested in front of the Chinese Embassies, and Consulates, and urged the governments of the world to put pressure on China in a co-ordinated strength to end the repressive policies in Tibet.
Tibetans in India observe Global Day of Action for Tibet
Along with a protest and press release, Tibetans in Dharamshala invited Takna Jigme Sangpo, the longest serving Tibetan political prisoner.
“The spirit of Tibetan is very strong and it will never die,” said the longest serving Tibetan political prisoner who is in 80s.
By sharing his life experience with the Chinese leaders, the political prisoner said that Chinese policy in Tibet in 1950s is very seductive.
“Many Tibetans got cheated by the Chinese policies but later on their brutal actions waked up all the Tibetans from the political slumber, and started showing the courage and spirit of Tibet by protesting against the Chinese repressive policies in Tibet,” said Jigme Sangpo.
Tibetans under the banner of different Tibetan organizations in India staged protests, candle vigils and held prayer sessions in almost all of the major cities in India including Bangalore, Baroda, Chennai, Delhi, Chandigarh and Dharamshala, the seat of Central Tibetan Administration.
Tibetans in Canada call for freedom in Tibet
As a part of the Global Day of Action for Tibet movement, members of the Canadian parliament, leaders of Chinese Pro-Democracy Movement (FDC), China Rights network and Amnesty International are said to have joined the Tibetans and Tibetan supporters in protest against the Chinese government at a candle light vigil at Ottawa and Toronto, Canada on Wednesday.
“Today, in cities around the world, Tibetans and our supporters are standing up and saying Enough! to China’s violent, military rule over our people, our land, and our culture and enough to world leaders for failing to hold Beijing accountable for its atrocities in Tibet,” said one of Tibetans participating in the vigil.
By blaming the Chinese government, the Tibetans said that the Chinese security measures in Tibet has caused twelve Tibetan lives to set on fire, calling for freedom in Tibet and return of His Holiness the Dalai Lama from exile.
Tibetans in US storm Chinese Embassy
As the Chinese President Hu Jintao arrives in Europe, Tsewang Rigzin, the president of Tibetan Youth Congress, the largest pro-independence movement by the Tibetans in exile went to US, and the president led a protest in front of the Chinese Embassy in Washington D.C. as well as in front of the White House to urge the US president to raise Tibet at the G20 Summit.
“China’s merciless and violent crackdown is compounding Tibetan grievances and exacerbating the crisis. Resistance against the same by Tibetan people will continue as long as occupation of Tibet persists,” said Tsewang Rigzin.
Being asked, the president told the reporters that the group was staging protest in front of the White House to urge Obama to raise Tibet issue at the two day G20 Summit which begins today.
Tibetans in Sydney storm Chinese Consulate
Tibetans in Australia in large numbers gathered at the Chinese Consulate in Sydney on Wednesday as a part of the Global Day of Action for Tibet movement, and chanted free Tibet slogans in unison, and appealed the Australian government to raise Tibet issue at the G20 Summit.
Tenzin Tsundue, a Tibetan activist is invited to join the Tibetans in Sydney at the protest.
Referring to the Chinese officials at the Chinese Consulate, Tenzin said “they must be very insecure, so many layers of barbed wire. The Chinese Embassies are never dignified and inviting, all over the world.”
“In fact, they look paranoid, monstrous, ridiculous,” said the activist.
Tibetan Protest in Munich
Tibetan support groups and Tibetans living in and around the Germany city Munich raised Tibetan national flag and shouted free Tibet slogans in the city.
Tibetans in UK lobby UK government
Besides protests and demonstrations, Tibetan lobbing groups in the United Kingdom sent a petition to the UK government to urge its Prime Minister to speak for Tibet, especially about the series of self-immolations in Tibet in recent months.
Tibetan protest in Italy
Tibetans and Tibetan supporters from different regions of Italy including some of Italian Parliamentarians gathered in front of the Italian Parliament building in the nation’s capital Rome and staged protest for five hours on Wednesday.
Mr. Matteo Mecacci, President of the Inter-Group Parliamentarians for Tibet and Mr. Rocco Berardi, Inter-Group Parliamentarians for Tibet, Lazio region showed up at the event personally.
Tibetans in France at the venue of G20 summit
Beside demonstrations urging the world leaders to raise Tibet issue at the summit, and blaming the Chinese government for its repressive policies in Tibet, two pro-Tibet activists including one Tibetan unfurled a Tibetan national flag and a banner reading “Enought! Global Intervention Now to Save Tibetan Lives,” in French at the building of Cannes Ville Station.
In other neighboring countries including Belgium, Switzerland and Poland, Tibet support groups and Tibetans have held protests and demonstrations as part of the Tibet Global Day Movement.
