DHARAMSHALA, September 27: Indian Union Minister of Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises Virbhadra Singh visited the Tibetan settlement in Kullu district, north India while on an official visit to the his home state of Himachal Pradesh last week.
The former Chief Minister of Himachal Pradesh met with the Tibetan settlement head and representatives of the local Tibetan assembly and representatives of non-governmental organisations, reported Tibet.net, the official news site of the Central Tibetan Administration.
While addressing the Tibetans at the settlement, the stalwart Congress Party leader expressed his strong support for the Tibetan cause and narrated his sustained connection with the Tibetans.
“My family has always been for many generations a devoted follower of both the Hindu and Buddhist religion,” said the Indian Union Minister.
“I deeply revere His Holiness the Dalai Lama.”
The Union Minister who has met the Dalai Lama on many occasions had encouraging words for the Tibetan refugees.
“Tibetan struggle is a genuine struggle for truth and justice and Tibetans in exile will reunite with the Tibetans inside Tibet soon,” said the septuagenarian leader.
Virbhadra Singh as the Chief Ministerial candidate had led his party to power on multiple occasions in Himachal Pradesh.
Singh had earlier come out in strong support of the 17th Karmapa Ogyen Trinley Dorje who was briefly dragged in a media backlash surrounding his office’s management of funds.
