His Holiness the Dalai Lama will meet four Estonian government ministers during his scheduled trip to the Baltic state this month.
Speaking to reporters, Sven Grünberg, director of the Estonian Institute of Buddhism and organisers of the Dalai Lama’s August 16 to 18 visit said that the Tibetan spiritual leader will meet four cabinet ministers – Mart Laar, Ken-Marti Vaher, Juhan Parts and Jaak Aaviksoo.
During his last overseas visit in July, the Dalai Lama met with top US lawmakers and officials including President Obama, Speaker Boehner, and Senator Kerry. An angry China, upset with the reception given to the Nobel Peace laureate slammed US, calling its actions “gross interference in China’s internal affairs”.
The Dalai Lama on his third visit to Estonia is scheduled to give a public talk on A Call for Universal Responsibility in front of the Estonian Liberty Statue in the nation’s capital Tallinn on August 17.
Grünberg, while reflecting on the complications involved in organising the Dalai Lama’s visit said that the decisions of the Estonian government should not be influenced by China.
“Estonia could be the country to actually implement a values-based policy, as strangely enough or without wishing for it, the Dalai Lama has become an indicator of values policy throughout the world,” Grünberg said.
During the visit, His Holiness the Dalai Lama is also scheduled to give teachings and public talks in Toulouse, France and Helsinki, Finland.
